She was born on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota in 1919 and died in 1987. She attended the Indian boarding school at Wahpeton Indian Boarding School in North Dakota. Broker was an Ojibway elder and storyteller. Over the course of her life she worked to educate the public about Native American people. She founded the Minnesota Indian Historical Society. She was involved with the Upper Midwest American Indian Center in Minneapolis. She wrote the Night Flying Woman, a story rich in Ojibway traditions. Broker died in 1987. Burns 's father is a Chemehuevi and her mother is an Anishinabe. The Chemehuevi are the richest tribe in America and their tribal lands include part of Palm Springs, California but Burns has stronger ties with her mother's people, who come from Lac Court Oreilles in Wisconsin. Jones benefited from two years of schooling in small one-room schools. He learned English and later became a translator. He devoted his life teaching the Ojibwas about Christianity. His mother was Ojibwe and his father was descended from a Mayflower pilgrim. Warren was educated in various Eastern schools by white teachers, becoming fluent in English. In 1842 he married Matilda Aiken and moved to Crow Wing, Minnesota. Educating himself in the traditional customs and language of the Chippewas, he found work as a government interpreter. His career includes a seat on Minnesota State Legislature, and writer for The Minnesota Democrat. He also wrote about Ojibwe legends and traditions. Warren died at the age of 28 from tuberculosis. Audience: Adult Gerald Vizenor , 1934- Ojibwe, White Earth Gerald Vizenor was born in Minneapolis, but spent much of his childhood on the White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota. Vizenor attended New York University for two years, transferring to the University of Minnesota where he earned his B.A. in 1960. His graduate studies include University of Minnesota and Harvard University. His career includes work for the Minnesota Department of Corrections, and the Minneapolis Tribune. Vizenor's teaching career includes professorship at Lake Forest University, Bemidji State College, University of Minnesota, University of California at Berkeley, and the University of California at Santa Cruz. Vizenor incorporates the Trickster in many of his writings. He was born in his grandfather's log house to the people of the Bear Dodem. Wub-e-ke-niew lost his mother at father at an early age. His grandfather raised him until his death at which time Wub-e-ke-niew and his brother were put in a government boarding school. He was drafted into the Army for World War II, spending time in Europe, especially Germany. In 1965 he helped found the American Indian Movement (AIM). He passed away on October 15, 1997.
